Common Errors in English Usage



  1. Lemme get back to you on that one. But I will say this: no matter how many times I review, the lie/lay/laid/lain crap is my nemesis.
    Yes, even I have a syntactical Achilles heel. (Hard to believe, I know.)

  2. I have a sign in my office right above my computer that reads in big letters: “Affect = Verb, Effect = Noun”. If I am taking my time writing I don’t have a problem, however if I am typing and thinking fast, I almost always make this mistake.
