…in the punchbowl

I love the smell of burnt concrete in the mid-afternoon

Filed under: home, punchbowl — Matt @ 19:17

Ok, I’m not sure the aroma is actually that of burnt concrete, but that’s what I’m going with.

The Better Half and I are in the midst of having our basement finished so the children and their toys can be moved from the family room (yours truly and his computer included). Due to recent changes in the building code (something about having multiple points of egress in case of emergency *shrug*) this effort involves enlarging an existing window.

Since this is a basement, enlarging this window involves a concrete saw. Mercifully, we were not at home when the cutting was done (never have I considered myself so fortunate to be invited to a baptism). However, upon our return we were greated with a house full of concrete dust and the lovely odor I mentioned in the title.

Definitely worth it, though. The window looks great, even with the mildly disconcerting presence of large chunks of our home’s foundation on the basement floor below.
